Besides its personnal research, Vincent has been active in a number of activities related to science which show his deep commitment to the progress of science and humanity. I will outline below those in which I have been personally involved and which I directly know.

1. I first briefly mention its participation in some of my own activities, in which its advice and contribution have been very useful, namely i) the international congresses in mathematical physics and in theoretical phusics which I have organized and (co)chaired at UNESCO in 1994 and 2002 respectively and which have been particularly succesful, in particular due to him ii) activities linked to international law and war with in particular the 2005 conference at Ecole Normale Supérieure on "Science and War, the responsibility of scientists".
2. On the other hand, he has himself initiated and successfully organized a number of other activities to which I have also been pleased to give my contribution, the Séminaire Poincaré which he organizes with Bertrand Duplantier and which has succesfully developed up to now and one of the great achievements of his life, science in Africa. He has created the APSA, Association for the Promotion of Science in Africa and has succesfully established the AIMS-Senegal, African Institute of Mathematical Sciences in Senegal.
